java has come a longggg way...

Just like any other language java has got limitations and faces criticism. and due the magnitude of usage (or because now java has become one of those "love to hate" fashion statement) the criticism is bit more ...
but after reading lots of article how java has failed, read the article how Java changed programming for ever. It reminded of how difficult it was to write production code in earlier languages

Java at 20: How it changed programming forever

BitTorrent 2.0 based storage service...

now this sounds really interesting
BitTorrent 2.0 guns for Dropbox, Google Drive and Onedrive with free business product

Having a bit torrent protocol to sync files and folders without a need for central server is really an amazing idea. Of-course enterprizes will keep some central servers in the setup just incase teams decide to delete folders from all the machines at the same time :)

They are claiming 16X speed compared to cloud, if its even half of that it will be still a solid alternative or rather de-facto protocol to go ahead.

Desktop Dead ???

really innovative...
HP's Sprout computer proves the desktop isn't dead

Not sure how many of these will sell, but I really liked the approach. All the companies who are investing big time into tablets and laptops don't understand that these devices are not good for long working hours (untill you use a separate screen). Either its programmers like me or professionals into 3-D animation etc.

Innovative approach to make desktop setup more usable is required and thankfully someone is thinking on those lines...

They stole my idea...

... but I am happy :)

Many years back I used to dream of a small pocket size PC with a USB/video port that you could plug to any screen or better even to any other computer (laptop/desktop) etc

No need to carry bulky laptops etc. Just carry what you need, rest of the heavy stuff like display, more processing power, electricity etc can be provided by the host machine.
In 2015 CES Intel came up with something similar and boy I like it.
